This MA in Written & Verbal Arts is offered jointly by the
Verbal Arts Centre and the University of Ulster and has been specifically
developed as the result of perceived demand for such a programme;
we have tailored the course to meet needs expressed to us by many
writers, facilitators and administrators.
A combination of practical and academic elements the Post Graduate
Diploma/Masters degree caters for the needs of two related groups:
creative arts practitioners (including teachers) working in schools,
libraries, health care etc. and professionals whose task it is
to co-ordinate creative enterprises for example in local authorities.
The course includes the following taught modules leading to the
award of PG Diploma:
· The Irish Writer in Society
· Applied Creative Writing
· Oral Narrative: Folklore as Process, Communication and
Performance
· Creativity: Practice and Promotion
Two further dissertation modules in the form of an investigation
into a topic of choice, a portfolio of creative writing work or
a case study of an arts event organised and/or promoted by the
student can be undertaken to attract the award of M.A.
DURATION AND MODE OF ATTENDANCE
Full Time:
· Postgraduate Diploma - one year
· MA - one calendar year
Part Time
· Postgraduate Diploma - two years
· MA - two years followed by a dissertation (which usually
takes one further year)
