Winning Poems - Key Stage 2

I Wish
1st Prize Key Stage 2

I wish I was in my friend’s house having an enormous laugh.
Instead I’m sitting in class doing boring maths.

I wish I was a lawyer defending all my clients.
Instead I’m sitting in my seat doing a bundle of science.

I wish I had a horse racing through the fields.
Instead the greatest thing I ever did was feed smelly fish to seals.

I wish I had a monkey just for me my own.
Instead I’m in the garden playing fetch with Sheba and a bone.

I wish I were in Paris watching people mime
Instead of doing class work learning about time.

I wish I was in a cartoon with Maggie, Lisa and Bart
Instead I’m in class, well it’s not so bad, I’m doing art!

What I see V.S What I see
Joint 2nd Prize Key Stage 2

I can remember when I was eleven,
The boys in school would bully me.
After every lesson I would run and hide,
But it was not long until I was found.
I would not tell the teacher,
I was too scared to move.
And I was too slow to run away.

The bell has just rung, still feeling frightened,
But I’m getting help.
Every day is the same again,
I had the nerve to punch the bully.
I’ve started to make new friends,
And I can stand up for myself.

I can remember when I stood up to him,
He got scared and ran away.
I ran after him and we made friends,
Now there is no more fighting.

I can remember back when I was thirteen,
I felt so big like I was the best.
I remember Sun G Hi, O what a name,
I was the toughest and I won most fights.
I used to pick on Sun every day,
I really liked it because I had lots of friends.
I remember the way he used to cry,
It was so funny.

It’s the second year, I’m still a bully,
I’m a bit sad I feel sorry for Sun.
But I can’t stop, I just can’t,
Every day I pray for myself so that I can stop.
Same again everyday, he’s so slow can’t run away
But I have tried, still the same.

I’ve got advice,
And it has helped, I’ve stopped, we’re friends.
I feel better than before,
There’s no more fighting any more.

I Wish
Joint 2nd Prize Key Stage 2

I wish I was a movie star
I would own a great big car.
My mum and dad would be so proud
I’d be up on a silver cloud.

I wish I owned a sweetie store.
I’d be the most popular girl in town
To see the children coming back for some more,
Some I’d never seen before.

I wish I was the girl who did good deeds,
Who gave the people all their needs
Who donated as much as I could give
I could even help someone to live.

I wish I was a poet
I’d write all the time
Everyone would like my poems
And I would always make them rhyme.

Through My Eyes
Joint 3rd Prize Key Stage 2

Did you ever notice how bossy parents are?
Always giving demands:
“Tidy your room!”
“Put away your clothes!”
“Do the dishes!”

Any time of the day, parents are instructing us,
Early morning: “Brush your teeth!”
“Comb your hair!”
“Tidy your room!”
“Wash your face!”

Dinnertime:
“Eat your veg!”
“Sit up straight!”
“Don’t burp at the table!”
“Elbows off the table!”

Evening:
“Brush your teeth!”
“Get ready for bed!”
“Eat your supper!”
The world seems such a bossy place,
Through my eyes!

Where I Live
Joint 3rd Prize Key Stage 2

I DON’T like where I live!
Litter on the streets.
Chewing gum on the ground.
Have people no pride?
Broken windows in lots of houses.
Seeds planted by eager children
Ruined by flower picking villains.
Name calling children
Drunk teenagers roaming the streets.
What a slum!
Communities fighting,
Glass bottles thrown and stones fired,
Petrol bombs injuring,
Paint bombs destroying people’s houses.
Graffiti everywhere you go!
