A Community Relations Art themed project with Key Stage 2 primary
pupils from the Strabane District Council Area examining symbols
and emblems relevant to different groups in Northern Ireland.
The second part of the workshop was used to design a cross-community
emblem for their locality, focusing on peace. A Verbal Arts Centre
facilitator visited the schools involved to introduce the idea
of identity and also to examine artefacts which may belong to
a particular community in Northern Ireland. The young people designed
their own emblem, with assistance from the facilitator. Words
and pictures, a logo for themselves or their community. Celebrating
the themes of diversity, interdependence and tolerance. These
designs were collected and made some of the most original used
in a collage for a poster to be distributed throughout the Strabane
District Council area.
