Strabane District Council’s
One Small Step Project

This project is planned to begin in Spring 2007 and will involve
schools and pupils who took part in the poster competition last
year. The project is funded by The Community Foundation for Northern
Ireland, under the One Small Step Campaign. The One Small Step
Campaign aims to support and encourage the building of a shared
future and a shared society in Northern Ireland where all of our
citizens can live, work and socialise together free from the threat
of sectarianism or racism.
This will be a storytelling project that culminates in the recording
of their shared stories. Through this community relations project
the children will learn how to craft together stories in a fun
and stimulating way. The children will take part in community
relations workshops where they will explore various artifacts
linked to specific religions, political groups or cultures in
Northern Ireland. These will stimulate discussion around the idea
of identity. This exploratory learning leads on to the next stage
of the workshops where children will create stories from a selection
of topics including culture, sports, music, flags and emblems,
buildings and churches and our area.
More details of this project will be posted once it has begun.
