| 2. Themes and 'Spin'
Age Range: 14 - 18
Duration: 1hr 30 mins
Group size: 30
Cost: £40 per group
The students’ brief for this workshop is to create a
newspaper story based on elements of the text, but with a
particular 'spin' - to be decided by the facilitator.
The object is to explore opposing themes in the text and how
they are addressed in the play.
They will take each theme in turn and pinpoint parts of the
story or text which highlight these, before discussing how
these themes impact on our reading of the text and what relevance
they have today.
This session includes an examination of Shakespeare's plays
within their historical context (The Globe Theatre,
Penny Stinkers etc).
3. The Language of Shakespeare
and Storyboarding
Age Range: 14 - 18
Duration: 1hr 30 mins
Group size: 30
Cost: £40 per group
This session will take the soliloquies/speeches and/or most
important scenes in the text studied and use them as the basis
for a short comic strip storyboard.
Students will be introduced to ways of decoding meaning in
the difficult language used and apply that knowledge by designing
and creating a comic strip storyboard illustrating a scene
or speech in the play.
Examples of finished comic strips will be provided.
An optional second session with our in-house illustrator can
be booked - if the school wishes to turn these storyboards
into finished comic strips.
