Themes and Comic Books

Age Range:
14 - 18
Duration: 1hr 30 mins
Group size: 30
Cost: £40 per group

Students will look at the themes and motifs running through the text. They will take each theme in turn and pinpoint parts of the story which highlight these, before discussing how these themes impact on our reading of the text and what relevance they have today.

Each group will then be asked to select an event or passage from the text which demonstrates one or more of these themes and turn this into a comic strip storyboard. They will need to defend their
choice, explaining how and why this part of the text
relates to the themes discussed.

An optional second session with our in-house
illustrator can be booked - if the school wishes
to turn these storyboards into finished comic strips.

Characters and Radio Drama

Age Range: 14 - 18
Duration: 1hr 30 mins
Group size: 30
Cost: £40 per group

This session will ask students to take a look at the main characters within the text they are studying and examine what clues the author gives us to make it clear what type of person they are. Students will look at issues of motivation and purpose and how the actions of characters drive the story forward and impact on events.

Students will then split into groups to write a scene/scenes for radio based on the text.
This can be done by updating the setting/situation to the modern day equivalent, writing a monologue for certain characters, writing a new scene or dramatising an existing part of the text.

An optional second session can be booked with
our recording engineer, who will record the finished
pieces and instruct students in how to edit
these and add sound effects.
