Children’s Theatre

This physically compact and intimate room was specifically designed
for children. It contains a distinctive storyteller's chair designed
by Ben Russell. With the ability to black or white out the room
and control the light by means of electrically charged glazed
screens, this room encourages creative activity and the development
of imagination. Audio patch panels and IT connection points make
this room ideal for small meetings or discussion groups.
Recording Studio
If the rest of the building refers to the heritage of language
this space is in stark contrast with state of the art recording
facilities.
Writers’ Wall
Embedded in the wall at ground level is a collection of 212 original
handwritten pieces donated to the Centre by writers from all over
the island of Ireland. The pieces are stored in glass phials containing
fibre optic lights and commissioned from Killian Schurmann and via an Arts and Business scheme with Perfecseal
the contents can be viewed on a touchscreen PC located in the
Reception Area.
Moving on up
As you move out of the Reception Area the Mezzanine and First
Floors can be accessed either by the lift or stairs allowing access
for all to the coffee house, library and main rooms. The Staircase
also shows a plaque to commemorate a piece of work commissioned
by the VAC with assistance from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland
(Lottery Funds) composed by Sir
John Tavener to mark the official opening of the Centre
and the organization’s ten year anniversary. The Mother
of God 1999 had its world premiere 26th April 2002.
