Children's books in Irish

Ó Lúibíní Lú! Rosemary (Rósmáire Ní Ghrifín) is having a terrible tenth birthday. Everyone has forgotten about it apart from her horrible, annoying older brother who covers her in flour and gets her in trouble with the teacher. To top it all off, her mum is sick and goes into hospital so Rosemary is now being looked after by nasty Bean Uí Chaincín who makes her eat cabbage every day. So far, so bad. And it's about to get worse. That night, she is visited by a group of magical fairies from the Tuatha Dé Danann and what they tell her totally ruins her birthday - apparently she too, is a fairy, just like them. Well, Rosemary can think of nothing worse!

This first book in the Cailitín series details Rosemary's adventures as she attempts to come to terms with her unwanted new identity and help the Tuatha Dé Danann escape their enemies - na Fomhoraigh. A fun, interesting read 'as Gaeilge' for children aged 8-12 years.

Cailitín

The second book of this series by Caitríona Ní Mhurchú focuses on Rosemary's quest to protect her fairy family, Tuath Dé Danann, from Cailitín. Cailitín is the most almighty wizard of the Fomhoraigh - the enemies of Tuath Dé Danann. He will be all-powerful when he turns 13 in almost another year and then he will be able to destroy his prey. Rosemary is the only one who can stop him in his deadly quest. But she doesn't know any magic yet! And no-one knows where Cailitín is or how to find him. Will Rosemary be able to save the fairies? You'll have to read the book and see! Talking birds, magic rocks, spy hawks, fortune-telling trees - this book has got the lot.
